Default Hare ears leader

Hi,
beginners question here, I was fishing today a team of hare ears, had a 10 in the dropper and a 18 on the tip. Ive spotted my leader didnt sink till half a way through, therefore not giving any depth to my flyes. I was on a floating line and 9feet tapered mono 3x then couple of feet fluo 4x for the tippet. Should a degrease my leader or just go for a heavier leader????

forgot to say, course didnt fish anything

Hi trozombo
You need to degrease your leader with a product like "Ledasink" . Some times are worse than others for surface tension. I fished today with little or no ripple and it was hard to get my leader to sink. You have to keep treating it and cleaing it after treatment. The lighter the fluro the more difficult it is to make it sink. Anything up to 5lb is hard work.

Degrease leader, hares ears (standard pattern without weight or beads) will float until they get waterlogged. Even then not much weight to them.

It really quite amazing to see what won't sink isn't it?

Hi mate,

Leedasink. Cheap, good stuff. Not worth bothering to make your own.

Leedasink - Backing & Line Care Fishtec

In an emergency use some soil to rub along your leader!

Tight lines,

Nick.

Good point This year was actually the first time I bought some, I always used to just use whatever was on the ground.
