If you see fish take mate, count to 2 then lift rod , do not strike. doing this increased my shipman rate by loads

Give us a bit more detail if possible. How were the fish taking it...splashy, rolling over it, sipping etc. How far out are you fishing, is this just one session or have you struggled on a few outings? What was the weather like...sunny, windy, overcast?

I don't fish shipmans but if fish repeatedly bang my fly I drop a size.

Only ginking one set of breathers so the back end hangs lower helps get more confident takes sometimes and making sure your tippet is sinking is very important.

One thing i found with the shipmans was not to lift the rod on striking. Give the line a yard strip if you see a take. If taken properly it will set the look if missed the fish will sometimes surge and grab hold the fleeing fly resulting in a smashing take.

Sarg - do you retrieve these or leave them to drift? obviously retrieve rate would be an influence - but if you drift them I shall shut up.

Dn most let them drift around with the wind as a team.

Basically mate i don't do rules when it comes to flies. I have fished buzzers static and caught nowt, then duffed cast stripped in to cast again and nailed a fish, then preceded to take my limit stripping a team of buzzers. I personly let the fish tell me what they want not what's written in books lol.
