Default Firsts on fly

Yesterday I had another first ever on a fly- in fdact two Perch from Marton Heath Pools. I've now had a rudd from Barnsfold as a first and am now looking for my first roach, carp and pike.

Hi Flytier7

Does this mean you're switching to course fishing?

Sorry to the OP for the above hijak!

For roach, little red tags, Diawls, buzzers, Okey Dokeys, GRHE (with and without beads), F-Flies, Klinks mainly quite small max 16 down to as small as you can tie Tippets have to be fine, especially if they are fished for a lot, 1lb breaking strain is sometimes needed. Klink & dink can work really well if you get the 'dink' at the right depth.

Had a Mink on a wee black klink and a #5 set up

Felt eyes watching me , looked around to see the Mink looking at me . It slid into the water and into the pool I was fishing , as it swam across infront of me I cast to it ( Why ?? ) perfect the leader landed across its back , I did a wee side strike and hooked him a good'n , now what !!??!! It "ran" past me and down stream and the fight was on !! it really gave good value for money , I would gain some , it would take it all back again . After a while I got it back to within 20 feet of me and then it changed the rules by turning and coming at me , this left me having to tactically shift up stream ( otherwise know as shitting ones self and running away ), all the time thinking why the **** did I cast to it in the first place ??
Lucky though it made a move out of the river and into the under growth . So I moved onto the bank and laid the rod down and started to carefully hand line it trying not to snap the line , we had a wee tug'o war for a while then out of the blue all went slack , I pulled the line in to find my clink was all chewed up and the ****er had made its get away

On reflection maybe it was as well it got away as I really was never sure how I was going to deal with it had I landed it although a few options had crossed my mind .

So that was a first for me and not sure I will be trying to repeat a capture of one again !!!!!

I once had goose get its leg in my leader and get caught. The great heavy bird soon broke the leader and got away. It was a devil of a job to catch it, needing help over several days, before the nylon leader material could be removed from its leg.In addition to this I've hooked a bat and a sheep.Sheep fight well.

Lucky man-they can give avery nasty bite as I still have a scar on my thumb when I tried to take one out of a trap back in 1961. It didn't like it so I shot it-quite legal as I had a mink trapper's livense at the time
