Default Westlow Fishery.

I'm thinking of going there tomorrow, has anyone fished it recently & what would you fly wise?

I've read previous posts & noticed that buzzers worked well in red, black & yellow, is this still the case?

Many thanks

Simon.

Hi Simon,
I am a volunteer at westlow and will be on duty at the lodge at 2.30 if you want a cuppa and a chat.
As allready said buzzers seem to be the most prolific, diawl bachs do well.
I allways use dry fly and though a novice and really only learning my flies to swim at the moment, allways get a bit if interest on shipmans, klinkhammers, black hoppers, also daddies should be coming in to their best now.
Have a good day. Paul.

Hi Sainty

Found this on the Net it might be helpful.

FISHING AT WESTLOW MERE

Whatever your appetite in trout fishing there is something for you at Westlow, from specimen hunting to purist fishing.
Monthly stockings ensure catchable fish for the novice and good bags for the lure fisherman. With catch and release, fish mature to become natural feeders and take the dry fly, buzzer or nymph.
Spectacular evening rises are a feature from April till late autumn, with fish, including double figure fish, being taken on small nymphs, buzzers or dry flies - whilst not easy to catch, well worth the challenge and a good way to rear fine brown trout and classic rainbows for future years.

Many thanks for that information, I'll bring along my flies & hopefully will get a fish daft enough to hang on

I might even pop on tomorrow for a while like said above the evening rise is very good. dry fly wise hoppers and daddys are a very good shout even better would be a team of three with a dry on the point and buzzers fished washing line style.I tend to prefer the deeps with alot of my fish taken a few feet from the bank, last time i was there I had eight in a few houre all within 10 feet of the bank on mayfly. It is one of the most freindly fishieris ive visited just ask anyone on the bank and they will gladly give you advice.
