Default fishing a nymph Q

i know people will have there own way to best use them but as a general newbie rule are these fished hard on the bottom ? i have done reading which seems to suggest so but are they effective mid water for example ?

Yes their effective and not just on the bottom Billy.Buzzers for example go though stages in their life cycle,which means they have to come up through the water column to complete it and hatch out into adults.Damsel and dragon flies are another example but their are others

Nymphs, larvae etc do spend most of their time on the bottom, amongst stones, gravel, mud and weed as part of their life cycle. However, nymphs of the upwinged flies also ascend through the water column to hatch and are intercepted by trout on the way, as are the pupae of chironomids. Nymph are also taken as they hatch in the surface as 'emergers'. So yes, in effect, nymphs take trout at all levels.

cheers lads, i'm reading a book at the mo which covers this but i'm not there yet..
