Smile Hello: new to the forum!

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum so thought I should at least post a hello and write a bit about me before I go asking loads of questions! Mods: apologies if I've posted this in the wrong part of the forum, please move the post if I have!

I live in Birmingham, but am moving to Cardiff next month, photographer by trade, and I'm a big West Brom fan (in case the name wasn't a giveaway ) and I've been fly fishing since I was about six or seven. I only recently started to get back into fly fishing in a bigger way since being led astray by booze and girls in my teens! Now I'm a bit older (if 25 counts as being older?!) my old man is fed up of me nicking his kit and has asked me if I'd like a rod for my 26th in a couple of weeks, so I've joined the forum to find out what is worth looking at, and to get some general advice!

All his kit is about 30 years old so I guess things have moved on a lot as I've been fishing all my life with a Hardy golden prince from about 1970 or a Bruce and Walker hexagraph, which weighs a tonne!

Anyway, I look forward to getting lots of good advice and friendly banter
and really getting back into enjoying my fishing!

ATB, Baggievann

Hey dude.
Welcome to the forum.
How much does your dad want to spend on a rod? What do you want to fish with it ?
Give us a clue and you will be put right.

Hi guys, thanks for the hospitality!

I do most of my fishing on stillwaters, there's not a lot of rivers local to me that you can fish that don't cost an arm and a leg, but now I'm moving to Cardiff perhaps that'll change?!

My dad'll probably look to spend about £200, the Mrs is chipping in with him to buy a reel and assorted bits to go with it as well. He's a bit out of the loop with regards to rods and tackle as its all moved on so much since he bought his, as am I! we've done a bit of looking about and I think the Sharpes Gordon looks a decent rod, meanwhile he's suggesting a second hand Hardy, so I'm not sure. If you guys have any suggestions I'm all ears!
