Question Not that knot, this knot, not

As a catch virgin I知 reading all I can, one area of conflicting (due to personal preference) information is around what knot where.

Can I seek your views on what knot, and just to make it more complete if you change knot based on material i.e X Knot to fly when using Mono, Y knot to fly when using Flouro etc. I keep hearing knot strength percentages, surely you want a 100% each time

Backing to spool
Backing to line
Line to leader
Leader to tippet
Tippet to fly

I知 tempted to just use my nail knot gadget for all bar loop-to-loop.

Backing to spool - Grinner Knot
Backing to line - nail knot
Line to leader - needle knot
Leader to tippet - four turn water knot
Tippet to fly - Grinner knot

your going to even more confused at the end of this

im a newbie and although everyone tries to help the difference in opinions is sometimes counter productive..

from one newb to another

backing to spool , grinner knot

backing to line , nail less nail knot , simple and this won't go anywhere , i tried.

line to leader , braided loop , easy to use , i have moved now though to a simple surgions knot now which gives a nice small loop at the end of the main line.

leader to tippit , ... loop to loop , make your loops with the surgions knot ...

tippit to fly , grinner knot

i know as a newbie i will probably get slated but these are what i have gone with and are all simple knots , i can learn the fancy knots later..

BTW theres a knot section on the site

i never use more than two turns ,and caught plenty of big barbel with the two turns
gives a perfect in line knot great for droppers or as a single leader knot always make sure loops are exact same size when tightening and make sure you give it plenty of saliva and tighten slowly

I wouldn't take anyone's advice on knot strength. All knots seem to have their aficionados. All anglers on the forum will extol the the virtues of one knot or another. Take for instance the so-called Perfection Loop. Some on the forum would tell you it's the best thing since sliced bread. My advice would be to test them at home for yourself. No knot will give you 100% strength and the Perfection Loop will give you little more than 50%, but don't take my word for it - test them yourself.
