Default Gink Substitute

Over in the colonies, we are frugal fly fishers. For years, we have been using a facial cleanser called

as a fly floatant. Many fly fishers swear that Gink is repackaged Albolene. I don't know if it is true but Albolene does work as a good fly floatant:

I got a large tub of Albolene from the US about 10 years ago, and it's still going strong. I must admit I don't use it all the time, but I haven't found anything that works better.

I only wish I could dissolve in something to make it a bit more liquid so I can dispense it from an old Gink bottle hanging on my waistcoat.

Anyway, you don't have to go to America to get it anymore, you can buy it here [Albolene : Newton-Corbett Limited, Beauty. Health. Quality..

cheers,

Andy

Plumbers Silicone Grease is pretty good and very cheap.

Really keeps deerhair patterns bobbing all day if that is what you want

On a related note I have a large tub of Epaderm is this much the same as albolene. It seems to be mostly liquid paraffin, emulsifying wax and alcohol

Epaderm is great for the skin, probably the best for dry skin and eczema etc, but will make your fly sink like a stone.

Sorry,

Andy

Hi, put your tub of Albolene in a container of very hot water, then when it turns to liquid ether spoon it into your gink tube or squeeze the gink tube put it into the Alblene and suck it up.
Regards Blithfield
