Default cheap starter rod

ordered a shakespere oddesy #5 last week but out of stock , the retailer phoned and said they could send a ROVEX RAPORT instead .. i know they are both cheapo but was more concerned at having a rod with a weight rating. i got a rod off e bay that i have had a bit of trouble with not being able to identify it's rating , said 5/6 on ad but nothing on rod..

anyone any thoughts on this , i don't need to know its cheap , i already know that , do you recon ill get away with using it for a bit ?

The Rovex is John Wilson from Masterline I believe but there are plenty Odyssey rods out there try John Norris Shakespeare Odyssey XT Fly Rods › Shakespeare Fishing Rods › Fishing Rods › Page 1 or e bay odyssey fly rods | eBay

Wait for an Odyssey and you won't regret it. Mine is going to have another little airing out this weekend. Three weekends ago it brought a 50 cm brookie to the net and it's a 7'6" 4 weight.

Take care

Terry

Haven't used a Rovex but would happily recommend the Odyssey. Got these in 7/8 and 5/6 ratings and love them; affordable, nice to cast, look good and get the job done perfectly well

well the rovex came this morning , the feel of this rod is worlds apart from the one i have at the moment ,it feels nice and light, looks well made and just feels nice in hand, trouble is they sent a #6 when i asked for a #5.. going to leave it as is though , for £20 it's just not worth the hassle.

i'm going to purchase a shakespere oddesy #5 as they seem to have a good review for the price so then i have a #5 and a 6 to see which i prefer.

feeling the action on this i'm sure my original e bay one is not even a fly rod . it's a blank used for many rods , compared to this new one my old one is like a limp sausage that's just floppy from tip to a good 3/4 way down..

another trip to the field i think

Just got an Odyssey 8' 6" rated 5/6 and tried it yesterday for the first. I found that, for longer casts, it was much happier with a 6 line. Tried a 5 as well and it was fine for short distance, reckon it would be OK on a river but not stillwater. Maybe it's just me and my casting style, YMMV
