Question fishing with cdc flys

cdc flys seem to sink after a few casts.
So whats the best way to dry them off?
Some anglers do a few very fast false casts.
Others dry them off with a tissue, whilst some use gink!
So whats best?

I coat my cdc flys with little cdc oil (Marc petitjean) when they first used , only lightly thou, then use them drying them with a few false casts inbetween , if the get too wet , its Amadou and Frogs Fanny.

Cheers
Spencer

I wouldnt agree with this...it depends of how you pick up your fly from surface and what kind of CDC you using. Many people drown dry fly when picking it up for another cast and there is big difference between CDC from wild duck that flies thousands miles and CDC one can by from various suppliers.Fly shops sell CDC from farm birds .....

False cast works for me and I dont use gink
Only problem I have with this flies is when they become slimy after fish or two, specially when I fish grayling..In that case I first wash the fly ,few false casts and it is good as new

Hi Madjoni, I find the cdc oil applied to the fly first when new helps to cut down the slimyness after catching

Sorry,I dont agree with that at all Bill.....After catching a fish wash as much of the slime off in the water as possible, squeeze the water out with a piece of absorbant material (I use amadou) blow it to seperate the the cdc fibres then give it a buff with the amadou till its fluffy and airy again. It should be ready to fish again once this has been achieved but there is nothing wrong in adding gink, providing the cdc is gently wiped back and forth across a fingertip which has been dampened with the tiniest amount of floatant melted onto it.

Fair enough, WJ. I stopped using gink after having problems with cdc flies and being advised not to use it - things seemed to improve, so I've never used it since.
I'll take my comments off, nothing worse than eedjits like me giving duff advice. Thanks for putting me right

Nae bother Bill......eedjits never sprung to mind once though...

Gink works best when used sparingly for all applications,I think those that dont like it have been applying too much of it.I'm still on my second bottle of it since the stuff came on the market (late 80s I think)....

I only apply a small amount , its like WeeJimmy said about Gink , some people put too much on the fly, just a sparse amount is needed.
