Default Help with flys pleases!!!!!!!!!!

Hi I'm a newbie to this forum and to fly fishing been doing it for about 12months now on a part of the welsh Dee. Course and carp fisherman by trade but getting to the old mid -life crisis an needed to challenge myself to do something new! Do a bit of fly tying as well and enjoying it. My question to all you old hands and experienced fishermen out there is, if you were only allowed 6 flys to fish a river all year round what would they be? Many thanks

The perrenial question!
six flies, two flies, ten flies, is an oft asked point.
For welsh dee six flies gotta have sea trout and salmon selection as well as trout!
here is my selection.
Greenwells glory. wet (sized from 16 up to 10, for trout, sea trout and grayling)
Pearly invicta. wet (sized from 16 up to 10, for trout, sea trout and grayling)
Green bodied klinkhammer dry (sized from 16 up to 10, for trout sea trout and grayling)
Gold head pheasant tail nymph wet (sized from 16 up to 10, for trout, sea trout and grayling)
Silver stoats tail yellow tag wet but on singles and doubles (sized from size 16 to 8 for trout, sea trout and salmon)
Cascade shrimp. wet sized from 16 to 6 (for salmon sea trout only)

regards
bert

Don't limit yourself to 6 flies, having the next new pattern is part of the fun too.

How many baits do you have for your coarse/carp fishing?

Welcome aboard Welshpoker.
1, Black spider
2, Water hen bloa
3, Hares ear emerger
4, Parachute adams
5, Copper bead PTN
6, Nickle bead flash back Grhe.
These in various sizes I am sure would get me through but things could get a little dull . PJ

For Goodness Sake don't try to make things difficult-this game can be hard enough for old soaks as well as newbies. Start simple and stick to a few basics to begin with then build up your collection and soon you'll have hundreds and still probably Not have the pattern you need!

Well as aenoon has said, a popular question. I've never fished the Dee but if I was setting out to fish it and had nobody to ask what flies to use - these are what I'd take (for trout)

Snipe and Purple
Partridge and Orange
Greenwell's dry
Greenwell's wet
Griffiths gnat
Gold Head Hare's Ear.

(All in a variety of sizes)
