Default avington/dever

had a call from my mate who wants to fish avington and dever springs
when i last fished there it was £60 for five fish and they were not the monsters I was expecting all about 3.5lb to 6lb, I dont really want to fish there again but my mates very keen, can anyone suggest a couple of better/alternate venues but still with a chance of big fish that I can tempt him with.
helpppppp!!!!!! please

The Fish coming out of Lechlade at the moment are averaging over 10lbs.

Depends where in the world you are, apart from those already mentioned, you can try Rookesbury Mill which is just down the road from Avington, or Narborough which is near Kings Lynn.

Avoid Avington they stock with 3 - 3 1/2lb fish unless you are the lucky one to catch one of the 36 "doubles" they stock in either lake one or lake two. That is three "doubles" a month for the catch returns!

Dever is a better bet if you can afford it.

But why not try Avon Springs? Cheaper wth big fish - up to and including 10lb and not too far away?

Although could be a bit cold at this time of the year.

Default Dissappointed

My friend and I went to Dever and were very dissappointed with the size of the fish, our biggest went to 5lb. On the way home back to Scun1horpe we went to Ravensthorpe and although we didn't get a 5lber we had around 50 fish between us. I said on this forum then we wouldn't go again.

That is a long way to travel though.

Fairplay Andy on Dever you can only speak as you find.

Yep, Ravensthorpe is pretty good.

Rookesbury to the best of my knowledge is closed and has been for a couple of years. Narborough is a cracking venue and I have spent many a day there, lovely place and people!

I've just now had a relook at both websites and Dever does give some clues about what size blues they are stocking but has not mentioned the size of rainbows that have been stocked.

Avington doesn't really give any size but refers to the fishing reports which mention the "doubles".

Incidentally I might have to ammend my earlier figure of 36 "doubles" stocked in a year to 33. This is an extract from the December report......

"The fishery was fairly quiet this month mainly due to the cold weather........
The large double figure fish remained elusive this month, mainly due to the adverse stalking conditions."

Lechlade have some champion fish from memory but the lake is not as clear as Dever, Avington and Avon Springs.
