Default fly advice

discovered a bit of the mersey today that was being fished by a few people , they were targeting course fish ,one guy on a feeder type set up although i'm not sure where he got the set up idea from..

anyway i was thinking of going that way sunday , my mate was thinking of trotting some maggot and i wanted to get the fly line wet for the first time . what fly could be reccommended for the likes of silver fish , roach ,rudd etc for which i was told there are some in there ..

i was thinking with my almost non existant knowledge of flies etc maybe a bloodworm type or a small buzzer and let it run down with the current or maybe weight it depending on how fast it sinks or maybe a small dry fly pattern..

thoughts appreciated.

If you can see fish rising then by all means use dries, but buzzers and nymphs rather small should do the trick and a beadhead would get them down if necessary.

cheers, got a little collection of small nymphs and buzzers, i will give those a whirl ..

is it worth using a dry to try and induce a surface take ?? i'm only asking as i'm sure i have read of roach/dace etc taking small dries . being new to the fly it would be nice to see a surface take ..

don't suppose there's any harm having a crack at both

i've had plenty of rudd on dries (small daddies etc) and dry(ish) klinkhammers.
good fun but on light tackle...

don't forget the chub.

Try the "fishing for other species section" and put ''chub" into the search this forum box.

here's a starter.
Chub flies

if the silver fish are dimpling, try a very small griffiths gnat.

Try a Griffiths Gnat or maybe a Grey Duster size 20.
