Default Kennick reservoir

Can anyone recommend flies to use for Kennick reservoir ? We will be fishing there next Monday and have never fished it before. Are there any particular areas worth trying first? We will be bank fishing
Thanks
Richard

Dial backs and buzzer if you like nymphing. Watch out for terrestrial flies if you like them off the top hoppers in black and green. The top end near the causeway on either side was fishing well and would be my first choice, but now the weather is changing they will disperse down the res a bit more so clampits and the lawns will be worth a chuck. Good luck, its a buetifull reservoir that you can just enjoy the surroundings.

I haven't the experience of Kennick that sarg has.... However The only fish I have ever landed there have been on Montana (earlier in the season) and Diawl Bach. There is normally a round of the catch report on the wall in the 'payment' building to give you an idea of what has been working.

Just looked up previous reports and anglers have found Kennick hard going at weekend. During the week when quieter anglers have had more success. Buzzers and Daiwl Bach seem to be favourite or traditional wets. It's a very pleasant fishery hope you're successful. Tell us how you got on.

Hi Dick & Jill.
I fish Kennick regularly once a week if I can. The top end of the lake ( causeway ) and also where the lake narrows is where the fish all seem to be hanging. The water at the top is pretty shallow at the moment and there is a weed bed out in the middle. Plus a channel that runs down through to the rest of the lake. If the weather is warm then anything dry ie. Daddies, damsells, hawthorns, bibios, mini muddlers etc. on top of the weed have been doing it for me. Even when there haven't been any fish rising they have spotted the flies and come up to investigate.
If that doesn't work then the good old orange montana or tadpole is worth a chuck.
First thing AM the red diawl bach or PTN are a good bet.
Kennick is a lovely place to fish. I may be up there myself on Monday. Come and say hello. I wear a red cap!
All the best

We will definately try up the top end first. Is it worth parking at the top or is the walk from the bottom carpark/permit hut ok?
Croaks if I do see a red cap I will come and say hello!
Thanks for all the useful advice
I will post letting you know how we got on
Cheers

Unless you have mobilty problems, it's a lovely walk around the whole thing. I would park at club hut - fish as you go to the top - cross over and fish again then have a lovely walk and fish down through clampits et al... It's a great walk and about 2 miles around

Ditto what DN says. The walk is great.
Also the top car park is rather remote. A couple of cars have been broken into up there. Best to park at the main one or on the road.
By the way. Permits are not sold at the lodge. The permit hut is near the bottom end of the lake, by the dam. There is a pull in with a stone building. Permits are in there.
