Default Filey Brig

Has anyone fished Filey Brig with the fly ?

I used to fish there "when I was a lad" (not with the fly). I would like to have a go at Salt Water fly fishing and always used to catch plenty of fish there close in so thought it would be a good place to try

Looking at wetting the fly around that area soon. Tried last year but didn't catch anything. Fingers crossed this time around

I am planning to have a go after the kids are back at school and it quietens down a bit. where did you go last time ?

I was plannig to try the Scarborough side where you have deep water straight away and plenty of kelp, I used to catch loads of small Pollack ("Billet") and some reasonable sized Cod there on bait

Tried at the same place as you described. I'm off to fish the high tide tomorrow at Scarborough so I'll let you know how I get on.

I fished marine drive at high tide on Saturday and Tuesday with only one small coalie after 2 3-hour sessions. Really shallow and lots of snags close in but had a follow from something big but not a pollack. Had a slimish body with a very pointed tail.

Got a nice pollack on the spinner from Filey close in to the rocks but no sign of any mackeral.

Cheers Stuart - there's been plenty of Mackeral caught by the boats in Brid from what I've heard, but I don't know where abouts or how widespread they are.

I'm planning to have a look at the Brig in a couple of weeks, but might take the bait rod aswell. I've never done ant salt water fly fishing and I'm sure I will feel a bit self concious if I can't find somewhere quiet!
