Not to worry H50 we're all just having a bit of sport at your expense. A few bits of knowledge would be helpful:

Where in the US are you headed? Ask as in some areas you're ability to finger the goodies may be quite limited. New York City as an example.

What type of equipment/clothing/etc., are you looking for?

A rough idea as to what your budget might be could be helpful.

As for the exchange rate, I doubt there will be much difference between now and then. That said, I'd still recommend you use a credit card as exchanging Pounds for Dollars (in real terms) will be darned near impossible. American Banks, with few exceptions, are not set up to handle foreign currency (well save for Canadian money).

You may also want to check with your credit card issuer to see where/with whom you can make cash withdrawals so you don't get creamed at a ATM machine.

When you get to wherever you plan to go you can buy all the gear you need at either Cabelas or Bass Pro Shops and there are also plenty of local tackle shops and you'll be pleasantly surprised how much Cheaper most items are. Just take care bringing it back as airlines charge quite a bit for excess baggage. Personal expoerience from last year talking!
