Going to Whinney Loch in the Scottish Borders on Wednesday for the day. Has anyone been recently and if so any tips on flies, locations, tactics?

many thanks,

Hi There,

Fred it is Coldingham Loch that I fish.

I had a fantastic day there yesterday.

Many, many of fish all on size 14 Bibio Hoppers.

Cracking fish as well, slim and full tailed and fit.

Whinney Loch is just across the road from Coldingham Loch so the same flies may work there.

I only occasionally fish the Whinney in the winter but from what I hear the usual suspects will be working.

Damsels, Buzzers and Small Dries.

The fresh fish will also go for a Sunburst Blob.

As for location you can fish it all in a day.

Keep an eye out for anyone who is doing well and ask them.

They usually don't bite.

The owner Ted Wise is very knowledgeable and always has his finger on the pulse and the returns book usually has a fair bit of information in it.

Good Luck.

Best Regards

robbie

Hello,

Thanks for the replies. Fished Coldingham a month or so ago and love it. Fish are good fighters.

Heard lots of good things about Whinney Loch so looking forward to it. Hopefully I'll have a good day.

Thanks again for the advice.

cheers,

Nick.
