Hi Bill

No, I haven't fished the River Lowther but I have caravaned at Lowther Holiday Park. I wasn't allowed to take the rods on this occassion as my youngest lad was only five.My others had left home. I enquired at the time and Penrith Anglers had the fishing rights. They have a website. It was a lovely narrow trout river and well worth a try.

Sorry BK, I should have made it clearer. I was referring to the Game Fair being held there.

I used to live in Penrith and we used to go most years

It was always a great day out, and a complete country fair, the focus was the horse trials but plenty for everyone involved in country pursuits, Horses, gundogs, shooting, fishing, rural crafts.

They always used to have a dedicated area for fishing, casting tuition, have a go, casting competitions, fly tying, etc etc

If it's anything like it used to be (20+ years ago) you'll have a great day out

And as BK says the Lowther river itself is a cracking little river

Hi' Re the re-opening of the August events at Lowther, local news here in Cumbria suggests that the only fishing activity is likely to be demonstrations by, I believe, Hywell Morgan. I have heard nothing regarding casting competitions or fly tying events. I may have missed something, but it doesn't sound like the rebirth of the old Horse Trials and Game Fair, with which the Penrith AA were so closely involved. Ja

Thanks Ja. I had a feeling from the website that fishing didn't feature too strongly.
Oh well, at least I'll stay out of John Norris

Not enough to entice me to make a 2 hour journey on it's own. Think I'll wait for the Cheshire fair.
