Default perch on the fly

I have done my fair share of perch fishing on lures, spinners and on the float but never fly.. I'm after any advice re doing this ..

Is using a lure pretty much the same as i would do with a " normal" rod and line as in cast and search the waters bringing the lure back after each cast ?

will perch take a dry fly/ emerger ?

will take dry flies, but more readily take wets, especially something like a butcher or similar

They also seem to like gold head type nymphs! Have had plenty by accident on goldhead hare's ear type patterns, I guess its the flash of the gold metal bead. Otherwise they will chase small lures, eg cats whisker. Never caught any on dry fly/emerger patterns, but wouldn't expect to as they don't generally feed on such stuff.

Would expect perch to take wets and fry patterns generally as they naturally feed on small fish. The best method on dries I'm advised by some of my american friends on the NAFFF is on poppers-they go crazy for them apparently.

They will take remarkably large lures. The Dick Walker Mrs. Palmer used to be a favourite...

I've caught them on a gold bead head Jack Frost whilst fishing for pike.

I've never caught a perch on a dry fly or emerger - I really do think you'd be wasting your time.

I've caught on lures and done especially well with olive damsels.

I've had plenty of perch on dry adult blue damsel imitations (not particularly big though).

Most lure anglers who target perch with a mepps spinner etc, traditionally add a tuft of red wool at the back.

Something to bear in mind perhaps.

Also worth remembering that perch will often pluck at the tail of its prey before engulfing it, and the pluck-pluck-pluck-wham take is familiar to lure anglers.

(But sometimes just pluck-pluck-pluck....... nothing!)
