Nothing to do with the fishing, but it's just got a new guy in charge.

I'm pretty new to this fly fishing stuff having just started in April this year. Been up to Gartmorn 3 times so far this season. Had 4 each time apart from last Friday evening when I blanked. I did hook one but it got off near the boat and made good it's escape!

Blood worm, black pennel and a small damsel lure are what I caught on in the past. One of the lads at the permit office suggested anything with a red head should catch. Unfortunately I didn't have anything like that with me at the time. The one that got away on Friday came to the damsel lure first cast after changing to it from a GH hares ear.

A mate of mine swears by hares ear nymphs up there but I've had no joy with them.

Plenty of fish rising and doing the aerobatics though and most of the action seemed to be up at the top end of the water from the island towards the top shore (furthest from the dam wall). I'm thinking about a season permit for next year but will have a couple more visits to see if it's beginners luck!!

Good luck.

Bart
