Default Hanningfield

I will be staying with relations in Saffron Walden in the very near future, in the past I have had a day or two fishing at Clavering, sadly the trout lake there has now closed, so my next best bet is Hanningfield, I don't care for boat fishing, can anyone tell me what the bank fishing is like, all advice welcome, thanks in advance.......

Don't know about Hanningfield currently, but many of the larger waters are a bit slow at present. If you want bank fishing nearby, Thornwood is worth a try, down near Harlow (you'll find info if you use search facility on this forum, he has a couple of lakes there which are better than Clavering) or Earith, which went right downhill for a number of years, is reportedly now under new ownership.

Don't waste your time on Hanningfield from the bank this time of year, great from the boat though.

Thornwood is a good call.

Yes, I think you are both right on target, I'm sure Thornwood is the best bet, I've just looked it up, only 20 mile from where I will be staying and most of that down the M11, Thank you very much indeed, that is where I will be making for......It's not that far from Harlow, I know Harlow pretty well, but never heard of Thornwood, I have now.

Thornwood is a defo as he is a member on here and so are a few of the regulars.

Chigborough is another albeit the main lake struggles badly in High Summer as it is only 5-7ft deep but the other mid-sized lake is still fishable but mainly morning and night.

Hanningfield is fishing ok at the moment and the fish are heavily centred around the bubble line.

Boats are on special at the moment during the week for £10 a day so still worthwhile a thought?

If you do go to Thornwood....good choice...you may not find it easy to find. Turn off at pub/Indian curry house and then go through the private gates and the small estate.
Do not expect over-pretty surroundings, but good fishery stocked by a man who wants to produce good trout for his customers.
