Default A Monthly Comp for youngsters?

Just been pondering whether we should consider running a monthly comp of sorts for youngsters on here.

Possibly a photo and story style comp and perhaps keep it for under-16's?

I feel that this would be a good way of getting more youngsters onto the Forum to learn more about fly fishing and also enable many of us Forumites to pass on our knowledge to the next generation.

Hopefully, it will also encourage more youngsters into the sport.

I would certainly donate a few goodies for this.

What do we think?

Ben

I have 2 under 16s who fish and fly tie.
Pretty sure they would have a lash.

It is a lovely idea, Ben. I like the idea of encouraging young folk into the art of flyfishing. However, I wouldn't encourage you people to use fora of any kind - you just need to look at some of the 'heated' debates that take place, the language can be a bit 'descriptive' to say the least. Even by proxy things can get a little rough; a recent thread directed us to a FB page that was disgusting.

I am sure there are ways around this - how would you lay it out do you think?

A good point and I wonder if u-18's could be barred from Viewpoint which is where most of the stuff they "shouldnt" see takes place.

If we were being sensible, we wouldnt let our U16,s on the forum unsupervised anyway.
Its a great idea, iv just started teaching my 6 year old to cast, hes just a bit wee yet but really loves it. Ill back the idea.

Anyway - still a good idea

Indeed, certainly not my Wife's other Godchild, all of 14yrs old and has apparently sowed his oats all over the town

Cripes, I couldnt think past my fishing box and fishing on the weekend to even consider girls when I was his age. Think I was 17/18 when they started to creep into my line of sight.

I dont think there is much on here that would adversely impact a teenager but I would imagine that most parents of actual children would supervise their actions on here.

Whilst us adults should be allowed to indulge in "adult speak" and the odd quip in the likes of Viewpoint, it is still an open forum which means that anyone can access it from the Internet. On the whole, however, I would say we all conduct ourselves with aplomb

This sounds a great idea to get the younger generation to interact.
