Default fly choice advice

Sorry for this post as it probably has been done to death .. I have most of my gear on the way and have been reading up re set up etc and have grasped the very basics .. I had a go at fly casting a while back and although i could cast it wasn't perfect but this will come .

So i'm all but ready to actually wet a line . I'm unsure as to what flies to use for trout .. I know this is probably opening a huge can of worms but is there any all round type flies for beginners to try .

I was looking round on e bay etc but don't want 50/100 assorted sub standard flies and would rather a few proven and good quality flies just to get me fishing .

thanks in advance ,

billy

You Will have to elaborate a little more so people on here can help you. Where do you intend to fish ie river loch reservoir ect.

i though that would pop up after i posted

truth is i'm not sure where i will fish , i live in the middle of manchester so fly fishing venues are thin on the ground..

if i had to say, i suppose i would it would be streams and small rivers , maybe a reservoir.

i can't really be any more specific than this ..

There is a similar post to yours, well worth a read.
Top 12 Flies

As said though, a lot will depend on where you are fishing. There are a lot of great fly dressers on here and they would be more than happy to put together what you need.
