Default Shooting head on a single hander

Would it work?

I've got a 10wt Rio AFS kit and am contemplating purchasing a 10wt single hander to fish for pike. I'll be hauling rather that spey/roll casting, because I can't do that very well...

I'd rather not buy a new line as I only have one spool for my reel.

Any recommendations on a good pike fly rod would be appreciated too!

Thanks

Gav

Yup, I have only ever used a single hand rod with a shooting head.

Biggest challenge with that sort of fishing is turning the fly over - some lines are better at it than others. I am sure there are well qualified pike and zander fly anglers on the forum who can help you with the set up.

I have used the very big flies abroad, but it is not easy to cast them.

Just a thought. Is the AFS shooting head kit specifically designed for use with a double handed rod ? If so, the heads may be longer than ideal for use on a single handed, the classic application is reservoir distance casting, where 30 to 36 foot heads are (were...) most commonly used.
