I disagree, there is a lot of useful information in the fishing mags especially for newcomers and improvers. You might think you know it all, which you probably do, but for a newcomer there is much to be learnt from the monthly mags, and they are are great to read at one's leisure. I subscribe to a couple of them at present and enjoy them. I consider myself a half decent angler, I enjoy flyfishing and I like to read about the sport. I am also a photographer (not half decent) and I learn a lot from reading the photo magazines so I would imagine the same applies to the so called piSh you talk about here. Not everyone is an expert.

If you have to have a trout fishing magazine then buy:

Trout Fisherman magazine

The UK’s No.1 still-water fly fishing magazine.

I agree with the Black Knight... not been at this game for long and find it very informative...

I believe the OP was after a magazine leaning towards river fishing in which case I would not recommend 'Trout Fisherman.'

I would look more at 'Fly Fishing and Fly Tying' or 'Trout and Salmon.'

I buy them now and again if I see anything that interests me.

In terms of subscriptions I actually like subscribing to foreign fly fishing magazines to get an idea what's going on elsewhere. English language publications so USA, South African, etc.

Its worth buying a few and see which ones you enjoy. Its also worth picking up some second hand books from Amazon. You can normally pick them up for between £5-£10 in good condition. Helps build up your knowledge.

I'm with you about reading mags on electronic devices.. You can't beat the smell of freshly printed trout mags!!

Where are you based? I have loads of mags you can borrrow.

I subscribe to Trout , Total Flyfisher, Trout & Salmon & Flyfishing & Flytying..
I also regularly buy the Sea Angler and Adventure fishing just to sea what other people are up to!

All of the mags i save in the shed for future use??!! (wife thinks i should get a life and burn them )

Anyway, my opinion is that Trout and trout Salmon are the best all round mag and then Total Flyfisher a close second..

O.K. For those with experience, probably not a lot new and mostly recycled.

For beginners, lots of information.

But for not much more than the cost of a Latte or a pint - they still send a pleasant tingle of anticipation to while away a lunch break.
