My mate is driving me nuts....
I am at home on the moors at night fishing for sea trout, but it is also nice to know someone is about. Anyway, my mate who often fishes with me gets easily spooked at night and as a result puts the bl'dy wind up me too
The first time was because he thought he heard a car door slam, despite being 1 mile from a road... Then (at a later date) he could smell ganja / pot / hash whatever you want to call it.... Then I could smell it (only briefly) and then it was gone again. This evening he came to tell me about last nights fishing, he said he got spooked when he could smell pipe tobacco and then heard a 'crack' - so he called out and nobody would answer him, so he packed up and legged it!
Right!
So I explained to him that where we fish is so damn remote to most people that the only other folk around would be another angler (who would not sneak about lighting a pipe without saying hello) or a poacher - but why the hell would he 'spark up' if he wanted to remain concealed. I went on to tell him that I couldn't see what the hell he was worried about, the two nastiest, most vicious, predators on the river at that time of night were actually me and him!
Noises could be anything from an owl to a deer etc... But I am puzzled by the smell though, my mate used to smoke a pipe and knows full well the rich aroma of the smoke - I am convinced it is a bankside herb or something in the surrounding greenery that is giving off the smell (having wiffed the previous 'ganja' smell for myself).
Any suggestions as to what it could be would be appreciated so I can demonstrate what a nob he is being
