Default GPS is Great !!

I purchased a GPS a few months ago planning on using it for vacation but had to cancel the vacation due to High water on the White River. I have however found it makes it a heck of a lot easier to locate the trout streams I have a hard time finding . I found a site on the internet :Latitude and Longitude of a Point
I can zoom in to the streams on the map by satellite and instantly get the gps readings. Takes me to the exact location every time.

With that website you can zoom into any place in the world !

I'm an old fart so maybe this is old news to most but thought I would share !!

I haven't got a GPS, except my Lumix compact camera has one. Each shot is imprinted with its exact location.

See if you can work out where I was - there is a bit of image foreshortening - location lifted from EXIF data.

GPS Latitude: N 53d 8m 36.56s

GPS Longitude: W 4d 16m 32.11s

Location: 53° 8′ 36.56″ N 4° 16′ 32.11″ W

Schrodingers Cat,
SplashTestDummy is correct ! When you go to the website type coordinates in the bottom box "Show Point from Latitude and Longitude" and it will show where you are on the map. Kind of fun!
You can also type in an address and it will show the coordinates to type in your GPS.
I used it recently to go to a funeral out of town and selected the satellite to see the layout of the neighborhood .

I used Google Earth - you can do the same thing there and also look at the 3d topography.

As do I. The most fun thing is the double compass gimbals (sp?), the upper one (I think that's right) allows you to tip over the screen so your getting a fly-by view as you move up a section of river/what-ever.

As most of the map views (here at least) are very current it's a total treat for finding walk in access to streams.

Have a couple of times where I needed to find an address and clueless where things were in the area. Getting an overhead (and driving view) gave me a good feel for what I'd find on the ground.

For a bit of context do have a Tom-Tom GPS but we have so much new construction here in So. Oregon that it can be next to useless (not in the program chip). Add to that the number of gross mapping errors (and that has cost at least two people their lives!) I'd rather 'fly it' before I drive it.

Correct, the cottage on the Anglesey side over 2 miles away, better detail than with binoculars on the image.

I was rather hoping 53° 8′ 36.56″ N 4° 16′ 32.11″ W would place me with more accuracy than that. I was about 10 yards north of the central footbridge. The camera display tends to give the nearest tourist spot and not the co ordinates found in the image. I was just curious how accurate the placements are.

Try this

http://www.ftscotland.co.uk/gallery/.../cairngorm.kmz

Click on the camera for the picture and give it time to load.

Before I got a dedicated GPS for my Nikon which automatically tags the image I used this program.

Geotagging software for digital photos exif

It matches the time stamp on the image to the time stamp on a GPS track and adds the co-ordinates to the Exif.
