Default Dog fish

My old Collie was a great dog. He was a SARDA search dog (alas he had me as a handler).... Anyway, I could take him fishing with me and he was absolutely no bother, he would just curl up under a bush (for cover probably) and watch me until it was time to move on. He never bothered anyone and was really good company when sea trout fishing at night.

The Collie is now dead and gone, but I have two other dogs; an English Springer Spaniel who is a right royal pain in the @rse fuss pot! I can't take him fishing because he is just mental and cant sit still. The other is a luuuuuuuuuuuuurvly Rottweiler who is a pleasure to be with, except for the fact that she loves to swim in every pool and run that she has access to!

Do you take a dog with you and how well does it behave?

On occasion two labradors.
Will do the under the bush trick, unless asked to move on, both love to swim, but wont unless asked!
is just in the training!
Will often be asked to sit at neck of pool, and will stay there till i am out at bottom, and call them in!
By the way they dont run in to shot either!
is just in the training!

Yup, I must agree... That collie of mine was a well trained hound... The others less so.

Is often we expect the new dog to perform like the old dog!
Only if we put in the same time in on the basics!!

I have a 3 yr old Munsterlander - if you don't know the breed they look and act like giant spaniels, completely hyper and mental but the size of an Alsatian

Its taken a bit for him to get used to fishing but he does now recognises whats happening and just lies down and sunbathes while I get on with it unless I go too far up the bank away from him. I do have to tie him up though or he'd be in the water after the swans!

Don't know if he would run in to shot but I suspect he would ...haven't had a chance to get him out with shotguns yet due to massive changes in my life when he was about 1 1/2 I dont have a sgc yet (started having babies!)
Much more of a hindrance than a help when stalking rabbits with air rifle but I still take him
