Easy call: Hummingbirds ... who else can fly backwards?

Redwing Blackbird (beautiful thing) with its call comes in second.

The Wren! Quite the best singer of all. One Wren could fill a concert hall with exquisite sound and no need for a microphone...

They also look wonderfully secretive as they flit in and around the bankside bushes and tangled twigs and branches. There is a nesting site on the Lathkill in a space under a fallen but living willow, opposite a spot I love to sit in, watching and waiting for the spinner return to bring up the trout for the last knockings of the day. I sometimes hear the chicks chee chee chee-ing when the Wren disappears under the willow with a beak full of caterpillars or some other insect delicacy. It's a good thing and it makes me feel very good indeed when I hear it.
