Default d t line

Having just purchased a dt4 line [never had one of these before ] how would you connect it to the backing, with a loop [to save you doing it when you turn it around] or would you use one of the many knots out there to connect them. thank you

Loop on both ends.Or a nail knot to backing.

Dont add loops,

Strip back an inch of plastic to the core with acetone or nail varnish remover.

Double over the braid core to creat a 1/4" loop.

Thread a fine needle with thread on a fly tying bobbin.

Stitch the loop secure close to the end of the plastic coating leaving the thread tag attached to the bobbin,

Trim the fly core/braid tag to create a neat small loop

Seal the stitching and fly line end with aquasure or flexi waterproof superglue (or any varnish will do)

Go bag to the thread tag attached to your fly tying bobbin and whip over the stitch, covering the end of the fly line. Seal again.

Takes about 10 minutes, end result a slim light loop that won't land like a brick, hinge or stick in the tip ring. Easy to swap out lines/reels and change tippets.

That's one hell of a consuistently long cast Taniwha if you worry your line to backing knot might get stuck in the tip ring

This is a great method for leader to fly line BTW - agreed. Also I use this method alot for leader to fly line:

As for backing to fly line knots, I tend to use a constriction knot:

Or an NZ trout....

I use the needle way too, but its a b8gger to do on lower line weights and then the fishing gods give you a wind knot about half way up... (to give you a better sense of my casting prowess)
