Default Great afternoon fishing!

Hello all,

Thought I'd tell you about 3 hours I had on the river in Northumberland today.

Arrived about 13.30 and set up NZ style with a klink with a small hares ear about 2 foot underneath. Spent about an hour fishing upstream then noticed a rise near some trees. Moved towards it slowly and after a couple of casts caught my first fish of the day. Absolutely over the moon because it was my first ever Grayling. Was about half a pound and was in perfect condition. Beautiful!

Hoped there would be more as I believe grayling shoal but no luck. Lost some flies to the great tree fish above me so set up with a single hares ear (home tied). Moved to some very fast water below some rocks, cast upstream and had to retrieve line really quickly and caught 3 lovely small brownies in about 10 minutes. Left this area and moved again to a nice run under a bridge and caught another lovely brownie at about the half pound mark.

This was probably the best day river fishing I have had, made all the better by seeing a kingfisher twice and some deer that were moving along the bank and were very near to me before being spooked when I moved.

Doesn't get much better than this does it? Had to tell someone!

Nick.

Thanks everyone!

Gazza, it was the river Blyth.

Greyhoundgirl, thanks for remembering. Good trip, Barlow not so good so fished Press Manor. Check my posts cos I put a report on about it. It did rain a lot though. Good luck with your river fishing on holiday. Hope it goes well.

Nick
