Default a wee bit advice please

my 7 year old grandson has really taken to the fishing, and i would like some advice on buying him a wee fly rod and reel....the bulk of our trout fishing is traditional loch style wet fly, boat drift fishing....would i be miles out looking for something like a wee 7ft 4# and a really light reel?

Any suggestions on what to buy him?.......i dont really want to spend much more than £50 for rod and reel...or even better, if any members has a cheap wee second hand set up that they think might suit, please get in touch.

Any advice/suggestions would be most appreciated.

Thank You

Lochan

I have just bought a Fladen 3wt 7ft rod a Shakespeare Mustang reel with spare spool and a Mullarkeys mill end line all for about £40.00
The rod comes very highly recommended on here, the reel wont win any beauty contests but works and the line was very good for the price.
I bought the kit for a spot of small stream fishing and to teach my 8 year old the ropes.

My mate bought one of these for carp ( bit light ) then overgunned it with a WF8f , loaded on the reel backwards, and even I could cast it!

Nice little rod for the money!

As I posted on another thread re- this subject I bought my 7year old grandson an Odyssey from here;

Shakespeare Odyssey Fly - Beginners Special Offer at Angling Active

And he uses it with a Ron Thompson energizer 5# fly line, and it casts like a dream.
The 8'6" version is a little to long for a 7year old to handle for long periods I found.
Good luck to the lad.
