Youth International - Menteith
Hello folks - first post on this excellent forum. I was at the Youth International last Wednesday in a boatman capacity and enjoyed meeting other members of the forum. When I explained I was an avid reader but had yet to post I was called a "lurker" in very good humour. Ok big fella - I get the message!
I really just want to put my observations into print and say how impressed I was with the skill and endeavour of all the teams. They really new what they were about and worked tirelessly to achieve the best they could under difficult bright and hot conditions. It seemed to me that they were all well drilled by their coaching and support teams - this is the future of our sport and I for one am much more optimistic after observing the talent on show. Can I just add that boat etiquette was of a high standard considering the volume of traffic in Gateside Bay. And what a support from families and friends!! I have never seen Menteith so busy and colourful with the flags of all 4 nations on display and friendly banter all round.
To conclude, a very well run event with 4 excellent hard working teams and outstanding support crew. The Scottish Team produced the goods on the day and were very worthy winners but, in the end, the future of U.K. fly fishing may just get the prize.
