Default Do you like fishing on your own?

I have just returned from fishing Draycote in a boat.
It was midweek and none of my mates could skive a day off , so I went SOLO.
I've done it before and not thought much about the experience.

The fishing was interesting, overcast micro ripple and fish showing. I caught 7 good quality large fish in less than three hours and then the fish went off.
I toured the ressie for the rest of the day and caught another 3.

I was happy with catching fish and I returned them all unharmed but something was missing.
I hadn't spoken to anyone all day, no laughter , no windups.

I spoke to the bailiff when I got back to the dock, he had fished the day before and we talked tactics.

Do you like fishing on your own? Or is it best shared with friends ?

Do you think you would still have caught 10 fish with a boat partner to disturb your high level of solo concentration.?

I like both actually.
I love sharing a day on the bank with my Dad and having a bit of friendly competition with him.
And it's nice to have someone to mull over tactics etc with.

But I also love a day fishing totally to myself, I find it's a bit like meditation.
I'll often glance at my watch thinking only an hour has gone past only to find it's 3 hours!
It's one of the only times when I switch off 100% and think about absolutely nothing at all.
I think a bit of time to yourself is good for the soul.

But having said that, I'll always ring my dad when I get home to talk about my day!

Have to agree with Dan on this one... i love going fishing with our club for competitions and taking my mates to the local small stillwater at Alderneuk near Dumfries, but i absolutely love getting up early and into the car for a day's fishing on my own... usually to be rudely interrupted by a call from the Mrs asking where i am as i was due back at 8 and its now 10pm!!!! lol those are the best days... well, until i get home at least!

I do most of my fishing on my own. Good time to do a bit of mental "de-fragging".

Almost all of my fishing is on my own. I'll occasionally share a boat and go for the crack but I like my own company and quietly take in my surroundings and watch the wildlife when fishing.

I do both, as my son has got older so the opportunity to go solo is becoming rarer but then I get as much pleasure in him catching as doing it myself.

I enjoy fishing off the bank by myself but if someone comes along it doesn't bother me. However I can't bring myself to fish from a boat on my own. I think this is more of a safety issue as my confidence in a boat isn't that good.
Each to his own but what I have found is that fly fishing people are in the majority a decent bunch and always happy to help with hints and tips so sometimes it pays to have company.

I like to do both sometimes i like to be on my own.i do alot of float tubing and its a bit like being on your own even when your mate is over the other side then every hour or so we drift close and have a talk about the tactics and what hes tryed so on.but i like to fish on my own mostly.but it makes a change to get together with mates on the bank some times.

depends on the fishing for me...

bait fishing (coarse or sea) could be a bit tedious solo, its the mates, the banter and maybe a couple of beers that make it fun

fly fishing on the other hand I almost always do alone, I get so immersed in it that other people would seem like a distraction. Of course not having any friends that fish a fly makes it compulary anyway The odd occasion I've been out with someone else has been good too though
