If you don't have any baby wipes warm soapy water and a sponge will do the job.

I've used soapy water in the past, but wouldn't again as the handle seemed to expel slippery soap every time it got wet for the next year!

Put the handle over the sink , Apply fairy liquid and rub the fairy up and down the handle (Like your having a ham shank) Then run the water over the handle and "GENTLY" rub up and down with a small rough sponge or scourer then rinse!

The handle will look a million dollars again Without pulling all the cork paste out - GENTLY remember with the sponge!

Dunno why that is,maybe too much soap. What i do is get the worst off with a old rag, then put a couple of drops of fairy on the handle rub up and down, then moisten a sponge ( one of those with a rough side ),clean the handle and wash it off under the tap and leave to dry

Neil

EDIT,same as what Col just said

I expect to get howls of disapproval but I've been cleaning my cork handles since I was 7 with washing up liquid and a small nail brush if the cork is heavily soiled. They come really clean and stains disappear. I haven't had a problem and I'm 67.This method has worked for me and rod handles on 50year + plus rods and they look like new.
