Default Why bother??

Went to my local stillwater today. Its mainly drys that do the damage there.Big scary lures just dont work.
Its my kind of place .As close you can get to wild fishing in a stillwater.
Anyway been there a couple of hours when a couple of old men turned up and started to erect their chairs and put their indicators on.I must admit i did roll my eyes a bit then felt guilty straight away.
Now dont get me wrong i fish buzzer under indicator when everything else fails. But then out came the bread and the powerbait. They didnt even try to hide it.
I just dont see the point they are only cheating themselves.just go to a coarse fishery!Thats not fly fishing. Then to top it off one of them threw the empty powerbait jar into the lake.Disgusting behaviour imo.

Surely it must be against the fishery rules !!!
Situations like that, leave them to it and enjoy your own fishing

its fly only i thought about reporting them but thats probably the only pleasure they have left in life and dodnt want to get them banned as they were not directly affecting me.
However when i saw the glass jar in the lake i wished i had.

Unfortunately you were looking at the worst kind of game fisherman.

Four years ago I was fishing a small lochan at Glen Coe when six rough looking men turned up with leger rods, bubble floats, fiercesome treble hooks, and power bait. They were ripping dozens of trout out and killing them. This wasn't sport it was the slaughter of trout. Watching them nearly made me sick.

Hello,

I think you should report them if it contravenes fishery rules. The rules are for a reason. There are other lakes they can go too that allow bait fishing I'm sure. As for throwing in the powerbait jar that is well out of order. Depositing litter is the offence. Not acceptable.

Rant over!!

Nick.

Fishing how they did is a bit sad, but throwing the jar in the water is disgusting, report the old farts

It's a bit of the thin end of the wedge scenario.

What does rather get to me are a number of fisheries that have rules as long as your arm but nobody ever stirs out of the comfort of the lodge to check up on on what's happening. I know times are hard and staffing expensive but it is a bit cheeky to have a long list of rules and then expect the paying customers to enforce them.

Have to agree with you Bill. However, there are exceptions, three weekends ago I was at my favorite stillwater where the rule is dries, nymph and wets but no lures, streamers or indicators and only one fly. Watched the owner kick out a fisherman at lunch when he noticed a damp streamer on the fly patch. Cost the owner 89 Euro as he didn't make the guy pay but he held the line! I've also seen the guy kick out fishermen who don't kill the fish they want to keep but leave them to suffocate on the bank or guys who fish more than one fly. He's even got the river section on dry only and God help you if he catches you on there with a nymph!

Take care

Terry
