Default Kennick last night

Well, you see I try and include my 8 YO son in as much outdoor activity as possible. He has hooked a few little trout by fly and is learning fast (started to learn to tie some patterns too). I really wanted him to play a big fish though (I only fish moorland rivers not lakes). I have tried an early evening with him for sea trout, alas the water was too high. The trouble with reservoirs is his cast is limited, and doesn't cover much water (nor do I expect it to).

I pitched up at Kennick with him at around 8 pm in the hope of a quick fish for him to play (wishfull I know). Anyway, after about 30 or 40 minutes I chucked out a linefull of a cast which was jumped on by a 2 or 3 lb fish (most otrhers around me were blanking). I handed the rod to my son who then played the fish back to the bank for me to net....... The blasted hook fell out and the fish made a break for freedom - I was so dissapointed (for him really)... Anyway "why dont you try over there dad, it looks very fishy" he said to me (how the hell did he know that) - I cast again and had another fish as twighlight fell upon us; my son played it and we landed it together.

We walked the rest of the way around the reservoir (about a mile) in darkness while the little fella carried the fish and took in the beauty of the night around the water. He was a very happy little boy last night.

My two are 5 and 6, and both have corse fished and have started tying babydolls ect but i haven't let them fly fish yet, still abit young but give it a couple of years hopefully they will be pestering me to go fishing lol.

Thanks fellas - he ate the fish for lunch too

sarg - I dunno where laployd bank is As I say, I dont fish ressies very often - it was the top (furthest) Western end 20 ft from the dam / bridgey thing I am not demonstrating good local knowledge for a navigator am I

Both fish were to a red diawl bach on the top dropper, I tried various buzzers nymphs + a silver sedge but they remained untouched.

If the bridge was on your left as you faced the water it was smithacott, and laployd is the bank opposite both are were i have been catching well from of late.

In that case it was smithacott, the only other person I saw land a fish was on laployd. boggy innit!

Although the 'fish that escaped my net' was in that bay below smithacott (with a bit of a wall behind). The fella next to me took a 6lb out on Friday night from there.
