Default Mustad snap links

I used to use these quite alot on stillwaters for many years, great for quick changes of fly and found they allowed more movement to a fly.on the downside they did open up alot after a couple of fish and you did need to change them after a while or you started to lose flies.
they did work for drys aswell.
On the rivers or a loch, the tarditional brain cassette said not to use them, but when I did they still worked.
I stopped using them the last couple of years, suppose just got out of the habit, but found that more and more are starting to use them again.

Whats your thoughts ,if you have used them,do you find it helps and do you feel the added movement to the fly has increased your catches?

These have been discussed many times on here. A bit of a marmite thing I guess, love/hate. I don't like 'em at all................birdsnest

Hello,

Can't say I've noticed anything in relation to catch rate. Have used them mainly for my point fly if fishing lures whilst going through the colours to find what the fish are taking. Just for the purpose of quick fly changes.

cheers,

Nick.

Just to explain why I ask the question, was speaking to an angler yesterday he said it had helped him with his as it gave the fly more freedom of movement.
I was interested to see if anyone else who had used them had seen a difference.

I've just started using them for this very reason. It's a bit early for me to say but I haven't noticed a drop in catch rates

Used them but found I lost too many flies on my backcast and didn't notice any particular improvement in catching.
If I need some extra fly movement, then either tie a uni knot (duncan loop/grinner knot), but find the it tends to closes after a couple of casts) or non-slip mono loop (or rapala knot, the same with an extra tuck).

I tried them.Lost fish /lost flies, stopped using them.when salmon fishing I use a grinner/uni/duncan with the loop left open but the knot cinched up tight.
