Default What happens to the fish?

Hi, just wondering what your opinions are on the way that a colder North/ North eastery wind effects fishing on the large midland reservoirs this time of year, especially if they have had constant Southern/westerly winds for some time. Does it have a detramental effect on the fishing or is it just my ability??

Thanks in advance

Chris.

wind from N or E are invariably cold, insects stop hatching so food is not on the surface as much, and trout go for a wee sleep till its worth having a nosey.

I've often found that such changes will put the fish off feeding for two or three days until they adapt to the different set of conditions.

North wind all last week in Caithness, there was some insect life but the fish were keeping shtum, a few of the lochs have pea mussels and snails so they must feed on them when its cold, got a few fish but it was hard fishing in the cold wind, easker 1

Cold winds definately puts the fish down. Weather they stop feeding or not I'm not sure. Their metabolic rate will slow so they will not feed as much as when it is warm. Again, their food saurce will also slow down but will still be there though at a different stage of their life cycle.

not restricted to the midlands either, it affects fishing all over. west is best, east is least, used to think that was a myth, not these days

unless of course you are talking cod fishing then the reverse is true

The prevailing wind in the UK is southwesterly and the best of all to fish in, an easterly puts them off the feed without doubt.
