I thought it was me in the beggining so I tried all sorts of recipes but still found them hard to stomach. Then I got really spoilt when I caught a 2.5lb wild rainbow trout in New Zealand, it went straight on the BBQ that evening, red flesh and tasted just like salmon yummy.
It has been said if you fillet the trout and leave it in the fridge uncovered for a few days it tastes less muddy, but yet to try this myself.
When I do eat trout in the UK they are usually over wintered fish from a reservoir and definately taste better IMO.

The nicest trout to eat is a wild trout. The nicest way to cook it is smoke it as soon as possible.
The best ever was on Lough Mask a few years ago. Myself and a friend had caught and released a couple of fish and just before luch we caught a nice sized trout.
I had my kelly kettle and a portable cold smoker with me to try, as I had been given Oak Shavings from an old Bushmills Whisky Barrell. The smell of the Trout cooking with the whiskey oak was out of this world. In fact it attracted three other boats to the shore to see what the smell was .
My friend who normally doesnt eat fish had to admit that it was superb.
Stay away from the stockies, they have been fed mostly on pellets so unless they have over wintered and fed for a while on natural food, put them back.
