Default How to tie a 'nail knot' and other things 'fishie.'

Don't know if you folks are aware of this web site (not a board) but usually lots of great stuff (how to's, etc) get posted up monthly. This one, as simple as it may sounds, has a great video on tieing a nail knot (butt section to fly line). For folks who are new to this game, well worth the watch.

Other good stuff is included:http://midcurrent.com/videos/how-to-tie-a-nail-knot/

Nice one there. I've always wanted to see it being done. Looks very simple and secure and will be easier going through the rods rings than my method.

Well, one minor bit here. The knot part will slide through the 'tip-top' very easily. It's the little bit of fly line that sticks out from the knot that will hang up.

If you want a truly 'seamless' pass you've got to have the butt section actually going into the end of the fly line, then out, then the nail knot.

just got myself a nail knot tying tool and looking at the video although it makes it look easy the knot is even easier to tie with the tool.
tied all my lines about eight of them in quick time and i`m usually all fingers and thumbs
about six quid off ebay and i`ll never have to buy a braided leader again.

I see it. Sowing needle heated with a lighter will get through the end easy.

When a new line arrived in the post, I determined to use a nail knot instead of loops.

I tried for ages but I just couldn't thread the backing braid through the small eye of the needle!

Don't use the needle for anything except the hole for the monofilament butt of your leader, as per the pictures above. Use the same knot without the hole in the line, which makes it a NAIL knot, for the backing and you will never have it cause a problem.
