Post wading staff rip off

As usual stick a fancy name tag on something, then mark up the price
& what do you get! Another rip off.
I was looking for a wading staff, but as usual found them way to pricey for the job they do. So i ended up buying a pair of telescopic walking sticks, which do the same job, for half the price.

I think certain manufactures, think we must be soft in the head to buy everything at inflated prices.

I was thinking the same thing, a Leki walking pole is way cheaper than a wading stick, and it will telescope down to nothing. Just have to have a broader mind and not only follow products from fishing manufacturers

Guys, Guys, Guys ... haven't you figured out that if you add a "four letter word," to be exact = fish .. the price goes up exponentially?

Welcome to the World.

Yea, they're rather pricey. However, the advantage of a wading staff over a walking stick is the weighted end. I'm sure you could add some lead sheet around the bottom of your walking stick with a bit of ingenuity.

If you think a telescopic wading staff is good enough, then you've never been in a situation when you REALLY need a wading staff

The collapsible jobbies are good for travel to a foriegn land, but if you apply too much weight they can lock together or distort. The real thing can be purchased for a similar price, £30ish one dunking or worse = no brainer.

There have been numerous threads / posts extolling the virtues ( cost based) of both walking boots and walking sticks for wading and I'm sure that if you never go more than knee deep in benign conditions then they're fine.
However, can I suggest that if you're contemplating some serious wading in rivers where depth and flow can be challenging then stick to something that's designed for the job or we'll be reading your obituary.

I use a wading staff pretty much all the time. Due to a knee thats pretty much knackered and more recently suffering from a condition that give me occasional bouts of vertigo.

I have found the collapsable ones have a nasty habit of collapsing , The ones that push together like the snowbee ones are a nightmare on a muddy river bed as you can lean on one , it sticks in the mud and pulls apart when you try and lift it up...The ones with metal tips seem to send a extremely effective noise warning to every fish in the location, and arent the right height anyway ,

I have a home made one ,mine is made from a hazel stick with 12oz of lead on the business end with a rubber walking stick type tip and it has a decent cord lanyard. It doesnt float and tangle with line, it does the job perfectly , if you need one then get a proper one , I also carry a little wire gizmo that hooks on the end of it , great for added height for unhooking tree trout..
