Default Time to be honest

Following on from the usual "Best rod", "Best reel, "Best floater" etc; time to bare the soul.
What's the biggest "pup" you've ever bought related to fly fishing? Reasons for buying it in the first place and why it didn't live up to the hype.

Shakespeare, Mustang, Alpha and Omni X reels.

I bought them because they were dirt cheap, I wanted to economise wherever possible and I thought "what can really go wrong?"
On the Mustang and Alpha, the drag setting broke almost immediately and the line kept getting trapped between spool and casing.
On the Omni X the gearing went after a couple of months and when into a big fish.

My biggest "pup" was buying one of the original monocore, intermediate fly
lines. I can't remember the manufacturers name but it really was a crock
of . . . . . . . No line before, or since had had so much memory !!!

Airflo C7 reel, bought as a cheapie spare but line kept escaping between teh spool and the reel...

Greys GRXi rod - too soft in action for me.

but BY FAR the worst for me was...

Bruce and Walker 'Hexagraph' rod. One of the early green ones, it was unbelievably heavy, cast like a piece of spaghetti, cost me all my pocket money for nearly 6 months and broke after a year.

The countless airflo floaters ive bought over the years, hoping they would live up to the hype and someday match their sinkers.I now have a wonderful multi coloured bean pole though

I have a fishing mate, not on the forum, and he claims this to be the worst buy of his fishing years too.
