Default Streamer fishing help?

On a stretch of river I fish regularly there's quite a few large (and as such I'd expect highly predatory) trout kicking around. As such I was thinking of maybe trying a bit of streamer fishing and 'provoking an attack' out of them particularly during times of higher water when other tactics might not be an option. What tackle should I use for this? I have a #7 rod so I was thinking this with a floating line and a sinking polyleader? As for fly choice I'm not sure - something with marabou or arctic hare?
If anyone could give me any tips on tackle/flies/techniques then that'd be grateful as I'm totally new to this style of flyfishing .
Thanks in advance,
Eric

Woolly buGGers cast either upstream or down, and hold onto your hat!!!
Do not be surprised what pops up in a stream that was thought to contain only small fish.

Absolutely, I know am man who is currently having the time of his life on the Clyde with streamers and conehead woolly buggers. He's had dozens of fish over 2lb, many over 3, and had others up to 6lb, this season.

I fish streamers in high water with an inty or streamer express line short strong tippet (2-3 feet) mainly with wooly buggers in different guise's .Works well enough had trout when most others were failing.

I went out last Sunday and saw some of the most aggressive behaviour I have ever seen, including one trout who behaved like my cat when I annoy him too much, literally curling himself around my hand/lure (cat/fish) ....

.... and not a single hookup ....

Tried the streamers for the first time for a couple of hours this evening on the river Wharfe, which was falling after rain but still high and fairly coloured. I got loads of pulls, lost a couple of acrobatic half pounders, and landed a half pounder and a 2 pounder! Well chuffed - it's definitely a permanent addition to my armoury from now on .
All the fish came to this fly I knocked up last night, which is a variant of a pattern on this page here: Do you fish streamers?

A really simple fly to tie but it's got great movement and certainly did the trick!
Pink tungsten bead, red hen hackle wing, red holo tinsel and peacock herl body. I don't really tie a lot of flies (it tends to be a train wreck ) but I think I'll have a bash at doing some wooly bug.gers as I'd like to try them out.
