Default Trout & Salmon Magazine

Dammit!! I've been done again! I'm sure I paid my sub by card last year, but I've just noticed on my bank statement that Bauer Media have taken a full years subscription out of my account via direct debit. No prior notification, no "offers", just the flat rate full subscription.
Just another example of "Sod existing customers" To be honest, because the vast majority of the content is recycled and the only new stuff is about more shiny gear, I didn't intend to take it out again unless the bribe proved worthwhile. Phone call and email time methinks

After the palaver I had with T&S last year bri, I have decided to not renew it when it expires in January, they have become a total joke IMO.
Apart from Paul Proctors articles, it's full of rubbish these days anyway.
Had it for many many years, but it's going down the pan, shame but there you go.

Hi Stephen, you're right; the only stuff worth reading in there lately. I remember having a bit of a chew with Bauer Media over a Sea Angler subscription a couple of years back; cancelled for the same reasons.
Brian.

What about our own Rob Denson's articles Steven? I think it is still a worthwhile read, and the current offer of a free year's subscription can't be bad- it works out at little more than a (grown ups) newspaper.
If they have 'renewed' a direct debit that didn't exist you should have no problem negotiating a better deal.

Nothing against Rob's articles GM, very nicely done, for those who fish stillwaters, but as a river fisherman in the main, they don't really interest me.
I have supported and backed T&S for years, almost from childhood, tried the rest and always returned to them, but I can honestly read the small amount that interests me in 15 minutes flat these days.
As for "grown up" newspapers, I'll stick with the Saturday Telegraph thanks, the Sun and the Mirror are way beyond my limited intelligence.

Just a word of warning in case you aren't aware.
If you paid by giving the company the long number from your card as opposed to the account number then you MAY have entered into a 'continuous payment agreement'.
The difference is you cannot cancel these by contacting your own bank. They can only be cancelled by the company.
All the best.

TIP
Have a calendar on the wall in a conspicuous position.
As the year goes on make a reference to actions and to future key dates such as this activity. Then put a reference on the December page.

On 1st Jan. transfer all of the ongoing important data on to the new calendar and as the critical date each month approaches, Do Something about it, eg cancel what you need to cancel, and then move on.

I've been get T & S for twenty years or more and IMO the standard of the magazine is going down.I got twelve months free this year and I still fail to fully enjoy it even when its free.
I won't be paying for it when the free issues run out.

Is there a mag out there with more river fishing in than stillwater?

I'm of that way of thinking myself. And FF&FT (which I have championed for years), is even worse - almost a complete waste of money. Unlike you though, I don't even find PP's articles interesting anymore, although that's not so much the lad's fault as the fact that the same stuff has been recycled and and re-hashed too many times now. I feel a bit sorry for some of these long term contributors who at the end of the day fish with a set of faithful patterns just like the rest of us, yet are obliged to continually 'reinvent the wheel' at the vice. Rob's excellent articles are a case in point - a refreshing new slant on some established patterns and they're all over it like flies round sh*t.
Trout & Salmon is a magazine concerned more with aesthetics than the standard of writing therein, which is a bit of a shame but that's the nature of the commercial beast.

What FF&FT's excuse is though, I've no idea!
