Default Fishing the blob!!!

Hi, Has anyone fished the blob for wild rainbow and brown trout? I am wondering if I should try and tie a few up and try them out here in NZ.I have fished UK before moving out here, just as the method was taking off. I have used the hang with nymphs with great results. I have tried black lures in the day with poor results but at night great. Lumo's are the go here in winter at night and in the summer as well. Has anyone any favourite size, colors, time of year, and how you fish it ie. deep shallow, floating or sinking line etc or is it trial and error. I am thinking more over the front drifting than Heave and leave or glow bug in the river. Thanks with any help, Den

In the UK we fish for RB's with blobs but not brown trout as a rule. In America and Canada it's a common method to catch both fish.
My fishery has a population on native brownies and they have occasionally been know to take a lure as opposed to a natural fly imitator.
