Default Best Float Tube

I'm off up to Scotland for 4 days fishing with my pal at the end of August and we're both looking for a float tube with flippers, at a reasonable price!

I wonder what everyone uses? Is there one which is universally accepted as one of the best, without costing £200+?

Thanks

Mctrout

Hi MT, if you go back to the home page there's a dedicated section on boats and float tubing and there's various threads on there about the best ones on offer, I got some good pointers off there as I've been thinking about getting one.

IMO you could do a lot worse than Sparton 01159463572

Whatever you do, do not buy the round donut style tube. U shape or nothing.

Gwynaid a member from Wales posted this reply some time ago it may be useful?

I have been float-tubing for many years and am afraid I disagree with modern thinking, as I still prefer the old U-tube as opposed to the new V-tube design. They are more stable and are not so prone to spinning. One of the best is also one of the cheapest and that is the Ron Thompson model, which is both comfortable and reliable I have three which are around 7/8 years old and have been subjected to rigorous treatment by friends and my son and have not failed once. The U tube is still avaiable from Glasgow Angling.

I've had a Ron Thompson U-tube for ten years now and it's still in excellent condition despite frequent use over many seasons. I was out in it a few hours ago (about ten brownies up to a pound), in fact.

It's never let me down, in fact I feel safer in it in a big wind than I do in a boat.

Do get yourself a manually-activated gas-cylinder life jacket as well. Last time I looked those marketed for sailing were cheaper than the fisherman's equivalent.
