Default why?

Went to press manor yesterday and we knew it was going to be difficult, temp was about 70 and the cloud that was about was that high wispy stuff. There was the odd fish coming up and just taking sub surface and the majority of the fish i would say were in the deeper water layed on the bottom just occasionally jumping out of the water to clean themselves off. To be honest when we got there i thought we had got the wrong lake, the fishermen were all sat in there pegs i thought it was the course fishing lake. Now dont get me wrong people who pay there hard earned to fish are entitled to do so whichever way they want, but i was always taught if you got no takes in one spot then you move on but that was impossible yesterday as most of the pegs were taken and nobody and i mean nobody was going to move,i would say a good part of the fishermen yesterday were flogging water that would have been without fish in it for the best part of the time they were sat there,WHY would you want to stay in one spot when you know there are no fish in it.When i say it was nearly full there must have been about ten empty spots that were vacant,so WHY not move????

Bank House have a rule that you have to move from your peg after an hour. For a small fishery, I reckon it's a very good rule.
Even if you've got that awful feeling inside that it's going to be on of those days, at least moving around gives you some hope and renewed interest.

Was at Westlow Mere yesterday and the fishing was like that-slow and very hard. Some anglers didn't seem to want to move, but most did. Probably wouldn't have caught the one I did if I hadn't moved. As was said what is the point of going to a trout fishery and then sitting in one spot all day?. You may as well build a garden pond and stock it with carp and sit and fish for them all day-it will save you money in the end.

I've observed that there are definately two types of fishermen they may be more. On the one hand you have those anglers "Stickers" who stay in one spot and stick at one method all day. Sometimes it pays off other times it dosen't. The other type of angler moves position regularly, if not catching, and changes fly and method of fishing regularly, "Flitters".
Whether a "Sticker" or a "Flitter" what does it matter if both sets of anglers enjoy themselves. Fishing isn't all about catching trout its being happy to stand there in the great outdoors fishing and being hopeful of a fish. If you catch that's a bonus if you don't the day out was good enough.

I understand what you are saying bk but i you buy lets say a 3 fish ticket you have gone with the intention of catching 3 to take home, if like me you go for the day out and a fish is a bonus then why not just buy a catch and release ticket?
Grey if you mean the far side were the trees are then yes,but there was also room on the dam wall which i was told that is the deepest part and on a bright sunny day that is were you would expect the fish to be.Dont get me wrong i enjoyed the day out, caught 1 and lost 2.At this time of year you do expect the fishing to be hard but that is the challenge,it is for me.Like i said it just suprised me that they were sat on there chairs and would not move. Its a bit like the people who go to the supermarket they always want the empty parking space closest to the store, same yesterday nearest peg to the car park.

In BK's terms i'm a "flitter" - for us it's very frustrating to be trapped in one spot because "stickers" are happy to retain their pegs. Still each to his own i guess. I think those in the know at press hold those pegs because the prevailing wind hits the far bank and very few seem able to cast into it - same for the damn wall, although at this time of year it can be more productive as the water is deep. Even on a still day that breeze can whip up and die again in no time. I've found with press that the fish lie somewhere towards the middle and often just out of my casting range coming in later in the evening - just at closing time
Not my favourite venue but close to home. You'd have been better on a boat horses, left corner near the reeds - can't be reached from the bank, and you can up oars whenever you fancy

From a personal perspective, I wouldn't fish anywhere where there were references to 'pegs'.
