Default Upper Avon Wiltshire

Hello there . . .

I've got the chance to fish the Upper Avon in the Manningford area in late August. I was looking for some information on the beat and whether it was worth paying the £50 day ticket fee. The stretch is controlled by the Wiltshire Fly Fishing School.

Another option would be a free stretch the Itchen in Winchester so any help or advice on either would be gratefully recieved.

Thanks in advance.

A.

Avon is on it bones at the moment - lowest and least ranunculus I've seen in 5 years. Fishing OK tho' where there is water, so check that first. Go small and light, early and late

I know that Maxarch has fished it in the winter. From his report, it is not a manicured stretch. I could not say if it was vfm, it depends on your own purse and expectations. I would suggest calling Malcolm at maningford fishery, he knows the water well and will give an honest opinion.

Manningford was OK but definitely not manicured! Good for grayling when I went in November, see

Walks and fishes: Wiltshire Avon 4 November 2010

I imagine it'll be like a jungle at the moment

Regards
Peter
