Default Loch Alvie / Jock in the bog?

Hi Folks, I have only recently joined here and I am forever asking questions about where to fish :P so I apoligise and also thank everyone who has helped me so far.

I am a total novice fly fisherman but have already picked up a lot of tips from the experts on here.

Just wondering if anyone has any info/experience with trout fishing on Loch Alvie and Jock in the bog (nice name!) in Aviemore? I am basically looking for some relaxed fishing from the bank (not much of a boat person).

I know there was a recent thread about Loch Alvie and Loch insh on here but the replies were more towards loch insh.

Thanks again folks
J

Both venues are brown trout waters.Flyfish for brown trout year round nymphs, wet flies, and dry flies work, but in different ways. Nymphs typically imitate immature insects that live underwater. Dry flies represent insects landing on or falling into the water, while a wet fly represents the same insects after drowning.Having said all that you need to know what flies or insects the trout are feeding on for any chance of success. When you go to one or other of the above venues if there are anglers there ask what they are using. People can tell you what took fish on a particular day but things change rapidly in fishing. What works on one day often dosen't the next.

The fish farm is at Rothiemurchus. When I fished it, it was so stuffed full of fish, they didn't jump out of the water in case they couldn't get back in again.
However, at the moment (2-3weeks ago), it was only open between 9 and 5, which is pretty pants in high summer.

No, I didn't get to do much fishing round there, being on a fairly short leash from SWMBO.
One bonus of the fish farm was getting some good views of the Ospreys.

Thanks for the replies folks.

Just to confuse matters, I have now been told about Avielochan, which looks like a lovely little small lochan just outside of Aviemore which would probably be more manageable for a novice like myself. I think its a club water but they issue day permits to visiting anglers.

Duckfoot, that sounds like a plan! When in August are you going? I am probably going to be up there fishing around 4 or the 5th so will let you know how I get on.

Millshield, I think the one with the graveyard/tomb is Avielochan, I could be wrong though.
